The Joy Audit: Celebrating Yourself, Exactly as You Are

In a world that often encourages us to fit in, there is something incredibly powerful about allowing yourself to simply be you. Authentic living isn't about being perfect or having everything figured out—it's about honouring who you are, embracing what brings you joy, and giving yourself permission to celebrate the things that make you feel most alive.

One simple way to nurture this is through a Joy Audit. Take a few moments to reflect on your week and ask yourself: What genuinely brings me happiness, peace, connection, or a sense of freedom? Then choose one small activity and intentionally schedule it into your week. This is a form of Behavioural Activation, a CBT tool that encourages us to engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities, even when life feels busy or overwhelming.

Your joy doesn't need to be productive or impressive. It might be wearing an outfit that makes you feel confident, dancing around the kitchen to your favourite music, spending time with people who truly see and celebrate you, getting creative, or simply allowing yourself to enjoy something without guilt. Small moments of joy matter. They remind us that our wellbeing is worth prioritising.

At CBT with Nicole, we also recognise that not everyone has the safety, freedom, or support to live openly and authentically. For many people, expressing their identity can come with very real concerns about acceptance, relationships, financial security, or personal safety. If this is your experience, please know that your journey is valid, and there is no "right" timeline for living authentically.

We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive community by offering reduced-cost therapy options where possible, signposting to trusted organisations and resources, connecting people with supportive groups, and fostering spaces where individuals can feel seen, understood, and valued. Everyone deserves access to support, connection, and the opportunity to explore who they are in a way that feels safe for them.

This week, consider your own Joy Audit. What is one small thing you can do purely because it makes you happy? Your joy matters, and choosing it can be one of the most meaningful acts of self-love.
